It has been a beautiful week. I am now a recognised Cerrada Practitioner, trained in the lineage of Angelina Martinez-Miranda, traditional Mexican Midwife and rebozo Queen. So too Mayella is a mistress of healing arts and I loved learning from her, and her lovely teenage daughter!
I have been offering Cerrada for three years now, but this has deepend my practice futher. It is such a magical, simple yet profound space to hold. I really enjoy working with Rebozo scarves, such wonderful tools with so many uses. Great for pregnancy and birth support with Rebozo sifting and jiggling for a relaxed body and optimal poisitioning. Wonderful for postpartum baby carrying, and for binding in Cerrada...
Cerrada translates as Closing. It is a traditional Mexican healing ceremony, helping to cleanse, release and close a Women postpartum; closing the circle of pregnancy. This is very important as mothers are so open and vulnerable after birth. Mothers can feel so sensitive, as if they have no skin. A new born mother needs as much tender loving care as a new bon baby.
Cerrada helps her to ground and heal, coming back home to herself after the expaniveness of birth. A Woman will never be as open as she is when birthing (no mater what type of birth it is). Cerrada helps her confidently step forth~ embodied~ into the next chapter of her story. It works on many levels; physically, by drawing the pelvis, bones, muscles and ligaments into alignment and bringing increased blood flow to to the core. By toning the abdominal muscles and lifting the pelvic floor. Emotionally, by releasing and soothing, by honouring and witnessing, recognising your unique jorney. Spiritually, by ancestral holding~ supported by all the beings whom practiced Cerrada before us. I wish for this to be offered to all Women: Bringing healing traditions back into our lives.
Traditionally it is used for postpartum but this healing rite-of-passage can support all genders and many life phases. The potential is vast and is an wonderful gift to the world.
This Cerrada form has a strong lineage supporting it, which adds to its potency. There is a magic at play that doesn't have to be consciously understood. Unseen forces guide this ritual. Strong intention protects the space. Herbal bathing, massage, rebozo binding and song all participate in sacred collabortion. I use local herbs, fresh and dry. Rosemary uplifts and invigorates. Rose nurtures and pampers. Lavender soothes. Yarrow blanaces. Calendula and hypericum repair. Each blend i mix is unique and prepared with love. The Rebozo used come from Mexico, made by Women on Angelina's midwifery apprenticeship programme. Supporting the continuation of traditional wisdom.
Bringing healing ceremonies back into our lives is a way for us to bring back community, rite-of-passage, a sense of being truly held, of fully inhabiting our experiences. Reclaiming our lives for ourselves again.
Cerrada can be offered in the comfort of your own home. I can do it on my own, but it is often best with two people. I can do it with your family member (i will guide them), such as your partner. I also offer this with my friend/collegue. We will be creaing a website soon to promote the Cerradas that we offer together. It is very relaxing and nurturing to be held by two Women, and we work together beautifully to provide this loving service. No matter how your Cerrada looks, i will be perfect for you.
