I am a big advocate of smoothies. They are an excellent way to stock up on powerful nutrients, easy to make and can be so very delicious! Many of us live demanding lifestyles and could benefit from an extra nutrient boost. I like to emphasise the value of getting nutrients via food (or food state supplements). What better way to do this than with a tasty healthy smoothie? You can pack so much good stuff in!
After one super smoothie you will be well one your way to "five a day" (I suggest we aim for 10 a day). Healthy, freshly made smoothies are easy to digest and often improve digestive function. The fibre helps clean you from the inside, enhancing elimination and preventing the build up of waste materials which can lead to disease. Smoothies are great for the skin, can reduce cravings for unhealthy food, provide good fats essential for many biological functions (such as optimal brain health), help keep you hydrated, are full of vitamins and minerals, can greatly energize you and are dam tasty!
Here is one of my smoothie recipes:
*One ripe bannana
*200-300ml coconut or almond milk
*Half an Avocado
*Handful of Kale (I like to keep Kale in the freezer and then add it. This way is it easy to break up and blends really well)
*Handful of berries, fresh or frozen
*Two Medule dates
*1 tbs cacao powder
*1 dsp coconut oil
Whiz up and feel the benefits! There should be a couple of servings here so share with a friend or store some in the fridge for later. The potential ingrediants are almost limitless. I often include maca for it's hormone balancing abilies. Spiralina and chlorella powder are incredible for their alkalizing properties, rich nutrition profile, ability to detox heavy metals, support immune function, reduce cholesterol and blood glucose levels, provide protein and much more.... Soaked goji berries will give a great antioxident boost. Lemon juice and zest add a lovely revitalizing quality great for the morning or an afternoon pick up. Nettles are full of iron and minerals. Get creative and enjoy.
Feel free to share some of your favourate smoothie recipes below... :)
